Your recordings stay on your device. FaceCast records each person on their own phone and never uploads the video or audio anywhere. There is no server holding your interviews, and there is nothing for us to look at, hand over or lose.
What we collect
Only what you type into the sign-up form, and only if you choose to make an account:
- Your name and email address. Used to identify your account and to send password resets. Nothing else.
- Your password, stored as a one-way hash by our authentication provider. Nobody at FaceCast can read it.
An account is entirely optional. FaceCast records, edits and exports exactly the same without one, and the app says so on the screen where it asks.
What we do not collect
- No analytics, no usage tracking, no advertising identifiers, no third-party tracking SDKs.
- No copies of your recordings, your transcripts, your captions or your exports.
- No contacts, no location, no photo library browsing. FaceCast only writes to your photo library, and only when you tap Save.
How a call works
A FaceCast interview is a direct connection between two devices. Video and audio are encrypted in transit and travel device to device wherever the network allows it. If a direct path cannot be made, which some mobile and corporate networks block, the media may pass through a relay server, which forwards the encrypted stream without being able to decrypt or store it.
To introduce the two devices to each other, we use a short-lived messaging channel named after your six-character room code. It carries the technical details needed to connect and the display name the guest types in. It is not written to a database and nothing on it outlives the call.
The recording is separate from all of this. Each side records itself locally, at full quality, so what you keep is not affected by the connection.
Transcription and captions
Transcription runs on your device using Apple's on-device speech recognition. Your audio is not sent to us or to anyone else to be transcribed.
Where account data is held
Accounts are managed by Supabase, on servers in the European Union (Ireland). Connection introductions run through the same provider. Public STUN servers operated by Google are used to discover network paths; they see the network address of the device asking, and no call content.
Keeping and deleting your data
Your account details are kept until you delete them. You can close your account from Settings → Delete account inside the app: it removes your name, email and login from our server immediately and cannot be undone. Your recordings are files on your phone and are not touched by that. Delete them from the library, or from the Files app, whenever you like.
Deleting the app removes every recording it holds. There is no backup, by design.
Children
FaceCast is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.
Your rights
If you are in the UK or the EU you have the right to ask what we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to complain to your data protection regulator, which in the UK is the Information Commissioner's Office. Because the only thing we hold is a name and an email address, most requests are answered by the delete button in the app.
If this ever changes
Nothing on this page gives us a claim on your recordings, and this section is not a quiet way of acquiring one. We may one day build something that needs a recording to leave your device — a backup you can restore from, or a feature that learns your own voice and face well enough to be useful to you. If we do, all of this will be true before it ships:
- It will be off until you turn it on. Not a box already ticked, not something bundled into signing up or accepting terms.
- It will ask about a recording, not about all of them. Agreeing to send one interview is not agreeing to send the next.
- You can change your mind, and stopping will be as easy as starting was.
- Your guest gets asked as well. Their face and voice are theirs, not yours to hand over, so nothing involving them will run on your permission alone.
- This page says so first — the date at the top changed, the reason written out — before the release that does it.
Until that day, the first line of this page is the whole of it: the recordings are on your phone, and we do not have them.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected, the date at the top changes with it and the app's release notes will say so.
